Another Big White BC painting, this piece was inspired by The Cliff, a ski/snowboard run that inspires either fear or joy, depending on what kind of rider you are! Even more specifically, this is The Cliff as viewed via one of the Biggie webcams. On this day, the weather was cold and blustery, and a fair amount of fresh snow had come down. I checked the webcam right around the time that the sun was breaking through the clouds illuminating the steep slope, and Cliff Clearing is the result.
This piece is mostly executed in oil paint, which allowed me to create three distinct texture zones: the sky, the mountains, and the snow in the foreground.
