AVAILABLE - Positive Space (12x12")

Time spent in nature is so healing. The Japanese engage in Shinrin-yoku (Japanese: 森林浴, 森林 (shinrin, "forest") + 浴 (yoku, "bath, bathing.")), also known as forest bathing, a practice of therapeutic relaxation where one spends time in a forest, forcusing on sensory engagement and connection with nature. A birch grove is a positive space for most of us, and many people see birches as having a spiritual side.

The title of this piece has a double meaning, as it is painted using a technique of flipping the negative space (ie the background) with the positive space (the trees). In other words, the birch trees in the painting are the birchwood of the panels showing through; only the background has been painted.

Mixed Media on Gallery Depth Cradled Birch Panel: acrylic paint, spray paint, liquid asphalt (rubberized). Natural wax varnish.
